Please enjoy today’s entry with cool science stuff and xmas lights. Merry Holidays!
`Tis the season, baby!
Hi, this is Alejandro, and this is my bike. Welcome to week 11 of the MKE blog posts. Let’s go.
Feeling much better now, breathing capacity coming back to normal, been able to Give Thanks more fully this week. Feeling GREAT now.
But I’m just curious, do you know what a fractal is? According to Google, a fractal is:
a curve or geometric figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole. Fractals are useful in modeling structures (such as eroded coastlines or snowflakes) in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth, fluid turbulence, and galaxy formation.
Ok, so we went from coastlines, to galaxies going through snowflakes, get the idea? Ok let me share some pictures with you:
Fractals are everywhere and compose everything we see. Our bodies are fractals because they’re comprised of very little cells that look like each other, and our bodies look very much alike, a head, a torso, limbs sticking out. We can see the differences, yes, but, the outstanding part, is the whole bunch of similarities.
This week I would like to throw on the table the idea of how nature acts in a fractal way, like Mandelbrot said, producing fractal structures that are self similar and auto replicate, and relate truth with those structures. Think about that idea while I read from Part 11 these 3 sentences:
“23. All truth is the same, whether stated in modern scientific terms or in the language of apostolic times. There are timid souls who fail to realize that the very completeness of truth requires various statements — that no one human formula will show every side of it.
24. Changing, emphasis, new language, novel interpretations, unfamiliar perspectives, are not, as some suppose, signs of departure from truth but on the contrary, they are evidence that the truth is being apprehended in new relations to human needs, and is becoming more generally understood.
25. The truth must be told to each generation and to every people in new and different terms, so that when the Great Teacher said — “Believe that ye receive and ye shall receive” or, when Paul said — “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” or, when modern science says — “The law of attraction is the law by which thought correlates with its object”, each statement when subjected to analysis, is found to contain exactly the same truth. The only difference being in the form of presentation.”
We read about Cuvier and Leverrier and how they could predict the behaviours of nature by inductive thought, same power we all posses. This study is bringing up new and interesting connections, amigos. Now it turns out we’ve fractal nature built in, just like truth.
Hope this week brought you some ideas and some value. Please share with me where can you see fractals around you? And let me share a cool documentary presented by Arthur C. Clarke.
See you next week!
